MOISSANITE

Moissanite is a sparkling mineral with unrivaled fire and brilliance that was discovered in 1893 by Nobel Prize winner Henri Moissan.

The material was identified in meteorite pieces found in the Arizona desert near Diablo Canyon. Dr. Moissan determined after lengthy investigation that this mineral was composed of silicon carbide.

George Kunz, a well-known gem specialist and mineralogist, proposed the name "moissanite" for the new jewel in recognition of Dr. Moissan's contribution. Dr. Moissan spent the rest of his life attempting to replicate his astounding discovery but was never successful.
